Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or location entered in a search tool is sent to the outside provider that operates that feature. The provider processes the query and supplies the result. We do not keep a separate log of those search terms.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email or direct message may be retained long enough to answer and maintain the related correspondence. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
Loading a page can cause the server to record basic technical details about the visit:
- The IP address assigned to your device
- Which browser you are using and its version
- Your device type and operating system
- The pages you visited and how long you stayed on each
- The site that sent you here, if any
- Timestamps for each page view
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files stored on a device. They and related analytics tools help summarize traffic, popular pages, and points where visits end. Browser controls can block cookies, although disabling them may change how some features work.
What We Do With This Data
- Keeping the site up, running, and loading quickly
- Sending your search requests to the right partner service
- Figuring out which pages people find useful and which need work
- Tracking down and fixing technical issues
- Showing ads that may line up with your interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Lenoir County Criminal History does not maintain, compile, or sell a personal criminal-record database. It publishes general directions to the Lenoir County Sheriff's Office, the Clerk of Superior Court, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, and the North Carolina Sex Offender and Public Protection Registry. Visitor information is not assembled into consumer reports or third-party criminal files, and this website is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes. Information submitted there is controlled by the provider's privacy policy, retention rules, and sharing practices rather than this policy. Review those terms before running a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to the Lenoir County sheriff, North Carolina court portals, state agencies, legal resources, or outside search services. Once a visitor leaves this website, the destination's privacy policy applies. Check it before providing personal information.
Certain advertising partners may track your activity across sites to show targeted ads. That tracking runs on their systems, not ours.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be available to:
- Search partners that handle queries you run on our site
- Analytics services we use to track traffic and performance
- Ad networks that place ads on our pages
- Law enforcement or government bodies when a valid legal order requires it
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable security practices are used to protect collected data. No internet service can guarantee absolute security, so a breach cannot be ruled out.
Users Under 18
The website is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. Information identified as belonging to a minor will be removed when a valid request is received.
Your Data Rights
Applicable law may provide additional control over personal data. North Carolina's Public Records Law, Chapter 132, including G.S. 132-1.4 for criminal-investigation information, governs records kept by public agencies and does not turn information held by this private website into an official county record. Visitors may still:
- Ask for a copy of what we have on file about you
- Have us fix information that is wrong
- Request that we erase your data
- Opt out of certain kinds of data processing
